You should watch this ted talk by
Roman Mars because the topic of flags is something we don’t normally think
about. What makes a good flag and what makes a bad flag. Most of us are unsure
of this answer. There is a lot of thought that needs to go in to the making of
a flag. We learn through this talk that there are complicated flags and simple
flags. It truly needs to represent the city with back up information of why it
looks a certain way. He also gives good support to why he thinks certain flags
are good or bad. He really does make me realize that the flag represents the
city.
I know im a great artist. ps: my blue looks purple on camera.
My flag follows the five steps that
he talks about in this speech. A child should be able to draw it (simple). Use
meaningful symbolism. Ironically enough the flag they disuses in this
presentation in the Chicago flag where I am from. So I decided to keep the blue
lines there because it is a good representation of the river and the lake. I
decided to make the blue lines more zig zag to represent the wind because it is
after all the windy city. He discusses how the four red stars each symbolize
significant events in Chicago. Although these events are significant, my flag
has a lot of smaller stars all around the flag along with the pain four stars.
I did this because Chicago is broken up into smaller section as well. In these
smaller sections significant things happen there too, within the neighborhood.
I kept the same colors because in the presentation he talks about how using two
to three basic colors is important. The Chicago flag has three basic colors
already, red, blue and white. My new version of the Chicago flag is still
simple just adds a bit more meaning to it.
I actually believe the camera adding the purple tint enhances the drawing. Not only does it make it more feminine, it also shows that waters aren't always blue. Just as the seasons, they change color and form too.
ReplyDeletethank you!
DeleteI like how you have the blue zigzag lines symbolizing the Chicago river. As someone from Chicago myself, I think it's also important to acknowledge the events that happen the the different areas of Chicago, too.
