Saint Louis Flag

Tweet: Roman Mars talks about a seemingly boring topic, flags, in a way that is funny and spikes the interest of the listener on the topic of flags

Here is St. Louis’ current flag:

The flag of St. Louis follows Roman Mars’ rules for a good flag pretty well.  St. Louis’ flag is simple. There are pretty basic colors and shapes that make it easy to copy. The flag contains the Fleur de Lis which is very symbolic for the French influence that is present in St. Louis. The flag breaks the rule of 2-3 basic colors by instead containing 4. There are no letters on the flag which follows the rules. And lastly, the overall flag is unique to St. Louis. The flag is well-designed, but there are a few tweaks that it could use.

Here is my re-designed flag:

My flag meets Roman Mars’ rules. The flag is very simple, contains basic shapes, and is easy to copy. The flag contains very symbolic images as well. The three blue lines symbolize the coming together of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers into one. The Fleur de Lis represents the French influence that is present all throughout St. Louis. The interlocking circles symbolize unity in the city. After the events of Ferguson last August through November, St. Louis is working hard to bring out unity between all that live here. The last image on the flag is the arch. The arch is a well-known image all throughout St. Louis. The Arch represents the “Gateway to the West”, and is an important part of St. Louis’ history.  My flag contains only 3 basic colors to keep it simple. I made sure to not use any numbers or letters on the flag. Lastly, my flag is distinctive. All 4 images are unique and special to St. Louis. I feel as though my flag follows Roman Mars’ rules and is unique and representative of  St. Louis.
