The process for this research paper
was a long one, but it had many different ways, stemming from the class, that helped
improve my paper. I liked the pace that we went in going through preparing and
building evidence for our collective arguments, especially the class we spent
in the the lab that taught us how to use different research websites proficiently.
It helped me pinpoint articles that could actually enforce what I am arguing
for in my paper by eliminating the more unimportant ones. Though I never
actually used the library to find books on my topic, I know that the librarians
there would be more than happy to assist me in finding ones that specifically
strengthened my paper. Another resource I took advantage of was the University Writing
Services. Having someone help structure my paper was helpful in finding more
ways to organize my ideas and reaching out to new ones. The people who assisted
me with my paper also helped point out naysayers and to predict what the opposing
side would attack with. Similarly, the structure of Fight Club helped more
develop more arguments and argue against any possible counter points in my
paper. With the amount of time we get to research a different topic, no matter
what side we are chosen to take, we can come up with some pretty strong points
in support for what argument we have to fight. This really made me confident in
my research for my paper.
The process
in drafting this paper wasn’t terrible, though more solid due dates would have
been greatly appreciated. Without knowing for sure when different parts of the
paper were due, I felt like I had too much freedom in forming my paper in
general. I like having solid deadlines and rubrics for my papers to help me
write the best I can. Sources like TSIS helped me structure my paper since they
helped develop any argument rhetorically.
I concur with your comment that spending time in the library's lab was very conducive and helped ascertain valuable and beneficial sources for the paper. However, where I dissent is in the opening part of your analysis. I think the pace was a bit too lethargic (at least for my taking) and if the process for composing this paper were to quicken, then that would leave time for other, more pleasant/enjoyable assignments. Or potentially, quite possibly deemed a heretic or crazy solution, do away with the term paper and instead, replace it with small, one to two page fight club papers. It is just a proposition, but you discuss equally valid points in your rhetorical analysis of writing this paper. Nice post Ms. Dizon,
ReplyDeleteI am in complete agreeance with you on deadlines. Having more concrete due dates and a reliable syllabus would have been beneficial. However, do you believe that the lack of framing gave you time to let creative juices flow?
ReplyDeleteI agree with you when you say concrete due dates would have been helpful. It was very difficult to know what was due when, and this caused a lot of confusion. I also agree that spending time in the library that one day was really helpful. With majority of the class being freshman, this day was really informative on the resources available in the library. I know this was helpful when writing this paper, and will be helpful on future assignments.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with everything that you wrote. TSIS was very helpful in forming arguments, the writing process was long enough, and the dates could have been set better.
