NY Times Arguments

Arguments that books make people boring:

  • If you read too much, you absorb other people's arguments and fail to formulate your own opinions
  • Book-readers tend to hold themselves in high regard
  • Book-readers only consult books because they view them as the highest form of knowledge
  • You need real-world experience in order to form your own ideologies
Arguments that books do not make people boring:
  • What is boring?
  • Books encourage thought rather than limit it
  • You can glean knowledge from books
  • Books do not have to be taken literally
